xplodethis – Robert Mallon on Responses and Outcomes

E (events) + R (responses) = O (outcomes)

The way that we think has a lot to do with the way that we feel.  Events can be huge, small, good and bad – the way that you respond to them determines the outcome.

  1. Stuff happens to everyone.
  2. It is never the events that cause you to be or feel the way you do, it your choice of how you respond.
  3. There are always at least 2 responses for every event.

How do you use this?

There is a thing called an emotional checking account.  In the morning when you wake up, your emotional checking account is full.  Don’t write a $5 check for a 50 cent event.  Most events in your life are 50 cent events, don’t let them drain your bank account.

In closing:
By next week you will have forgotten what you learned at this conference.  Before you leave today, make a list of 10 things you are going to do because of things you learned at this conference.
